Pilgrimage to St. Andrews

The Journey Every True Golfer Should Take In June of 2010 with my brother Ash, I took the journey that every true golfer should take - to St. Andrews, Scotland, “The Mecca of Golf”. With eleven “Open Championship” medals hanging on our family tree, making the trip had been on our “Bucket Lists” for years. For us, it was very special. We went in search of our golfing ancestors and were not disappointed. We found references to them on street signs, on the 1914-1918 WWI Memorial and in … [Read more...] about Pilgrimage to St. Andrews

Go-Go-Go-Lydia Ko

$1 Million Dollar Teenager is Making History Lydia was born in Seoul, Korea on April 24th 1997. Her family moved to New Zealand when Lydia was very young. She is a New Zealand National. She sure is breaking some records on the LPGA Tour. At the tender age of 17 she has already earned $1,061,019 this year alone in tour winnings. Yes and there’s sponsor endorsements on top of that, which I suspect are substantial. The million dollar mark was broken when she won the LPGA Marathon Classic. Her … [Read more...] about Go-Go-Go-Lydia Ko

Lydia Ko Wins “The LPGA Marathon Championship”

The Million Dollar Girl How amazing is it that Lydia Ko at the age of only 17 years, 2 months and 26 days (July 20th, 2014) wins on the LPGA Tour for the second time this year. (That gives her a total of 4 wins on that tour). That’s a record. Her previous win was at “The Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic” (Lydia take, $270,000) held in San Francisco this last April. Here’s another record for her, she is the youngest player to have won over one million dollars in one season. Yesterday’s “LPGA … [Read more...] about Lydia Ko Wins “The LPGA Marathon Championship”

Golf’s Suicide Ally

Beware the "S" Word Watching Steve Stricker playing the second hole in the last round of the 2013 U. S. Open Championship reminded me of a concern I always have when I watch a PGA Tour tournament. Shanking a shot must surely be a golfer’s worst nightmare. Some aren’t even brave enough to say the word, fearing it might cast its cures on them. They simply refer to it as the dreaded “S” word. When Steve hit that shank-shot from the left rough and sent his ball across the fairway, I can only imagine … [Read more...] about Golf’s Suicide Ally

Are You Australian Royalty?

There’s a tongue-in-cheek saying in Australia, that if you can trace your ancestry back to your early family members who were transported from Great Britain in the 1800s to the convict settlements in and around Sydney, then you can claim to be “Australian Royalty”.  I live in California, but Christine one of my daughters and my two grandchildren Eromon and Ruby-Ose live in Sydney, Australia. I believe they can make claim to that dubious honor. Our family line on my mother’s side goes … [Read more...] about Are You Australian Royalty?

Are Caddies in Golf Sportsmen?

During the time Steve Williams caddied for Tiger Woods; It was said that he earned more than any other New Zealand sports person. When I heard that, the question I asked myself was: Is a caddie a sportsman? In professional golf he-she is certainly one half of a two-person team. A good caddie does more than just carry the golfer’s bag and keep his clubs clean and dry when conditions are wet. As most golfers know, the many duties of a good professional caddie are, calculating yardages and … [Read more...] about Are Caddies in Golf Sportsmen?
