Stacy Lewis. World’s Number 1 Lady Golfer
Comparing the PGA Tour and the LPGA Tour Dollar Difference
Over the last weekend ending Sunday June 1st Stacy Lewis won the Shop-Rite LPGA Classic Golf Tournament, played in New Jersey. In doing so for the second time she became the world’s #1 lady golfer. The win put her earning year to date at $1,102,756. Michelle Wie in 2nd place has earnings of $821,994. Meaning Stacy is the only lady over the million dollar mark so far this year.
That made me look at the PGA Tour earnings. At this time Bubba Watson is #1 having earned $4,978,679. So far this year there are 63 PGA Tour players over the million mark. Jeff Overton is at that number with winnings of $1,010,374. To match Michelle Wie’s winnings you have to go all the way down the PGA money-list to 78th place where Kevin Streelman is at $825,439.
By my calculations that means for every $1.00 Bubba makes, Stacy is only making $0.22. Then I checked the 10th positions on each tour and found Adam Scott with $2,521,450 in earning and Lizette Salas with $470,615. The difference there, for Scott’s $1.00 Lizette is making $0.19. So the ratio seems to stay much the same. It sure is a big difference! These are just Tour winning numbers with sponsorship earnings being additional income.
For how skilled, entertaining and professional the ladies are, seems to me the numbers favor the men so much it’s all a bit out of whack. What do you think?
