Losing Your Cool on the Golf Course, Isn’t Cool

Losing Your Cool on the Golf Course, Isn’t Cool It happens from time to time, you see at the local golf club and even some of the “Tour Players” are guilty of it from time to time. Throwing, bending and breaking golf clubs just isn’t a cool thing to do. If you watched the 2013 Open at the Merion Golf Club, in Ardmore, Pennsylvania, you might remember Rory McIlroy’s mini-breakdown. During the last round on the 11th hole, in frustration he thumped one of his wedges into the ground and then … [Read more...] about Losing Your Cool on the Golf Course, Isn’t Cool

Links-Land for a Golf Course

“The Old Course” of the Southern Hemisphere, but it will never happen. Just in case you don’t know, I live in California. In March I spent three weeks with my brother in New Zealand. He lives in the small sea side community of Riversdale Beach, situated on the East Coast of the North Island. It’s about a two and a half hour drive from the capital city of Wellington, my old home town. My brother Ash’s home is on Harapaki the southernmost street in Riversdale. All the homes on that street face … [Read more...] about Links-Land for a Golf Course

Golf’s Suicide Ally

Beware the "S" Word Watching Steve Stricker playing the second hole in the last round of the 2013 U. S. Open Championship reminded me of a concern I always have when I watch a PGA Tour tournament. Shanking a shot must surely be a golfer’s worst nightmare. Some aren’t even brave enough to say the word, fearing it might cast its cures on them. They simply refer to it as the dreaded “S” word. When Steve hit that shank-shot from the left rough and sent his ball across the fairway, I can only imagine … [Read more...] about Golf’s Suicide Ally

Are You Australian Royalty?

There’s a tongue-in-cheek saying in Australia, that if you can trace your ancestry back to your early family members who were transported from Great Britain in the 1800s to the convict settlements in and around Sydney, then you can claim to be “Australian Royalty”.  I live in California, but Christine one of my daughters and my two grandchildren Eromon and Ruby-Ose live in Sydney, Australia. I believe they can make claim to that dubious honor. Our family line on my mother’s side goes … [Read more...] about Are You Australian Royalty?

Are Caddies in Golf Sportsmen?

During the time Steve Williams caddied for Tiger Woods; It was said that he earned more than any other New Zealand sports person. When I heard that, the question I asked myself was: Is a caddie a sportsman? In professional golf he-she is certainly one half of a two-person team. A good caddie does more than just carry the golfer’s bag and keep his clubs clean and dry when conditions are wet. As most golfers know, the many duties of a good professional caddie are, calculating yardages and … [Read more...] about Are Caddies in Golf Sportsmen?
